EAGLES 2272 FAMILY
PICNIC 8/21/2001 - Ellis Park Overlook Pavilion
Repairing the 10 Commandments Monolith. Cedar Rapids,
Iowa
In June
1957, the Ten Commandments monolith was donated to the city of
Cedar Rapids
by the Fraternal Order of Eagles.Through
the many years of the statue standing strong, is has withstood
legal battles and during the incredible flood of 2008, which wiped
out almost all of the downtown business district and several
thousand households, the Ten Commandments monument was knocked
over.
With
the volunteer help of Coonrod Wrecker and Crane Service, Iowa
Valley Monument Company and Marion Aerie #4522, Cedar Rapids Aerie
#2272 re-erected the monument on
Mays
Island
. This is a wonderful tribute showing that these commandments will
live strong for many years to come in the city of five seasons.
